One shared mission across the Atlantic: Advancing the future of image-guided brain care

The annual meeting of the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery in Seattle (July 2026) highlighted the growing global momentum behind image-guided, minimally invasive brain care. The discussions closely reflect the ambitions of the SEISMIC project and its international consortium.

Last week, several SEISMIC consortium partners were represented at the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS) Annual Meeting in Seattle to discuss the rapidly evolving field of neurointervention.

Among the SEISMIC representatives were Viktor Óriás and colleagues from Philips, coordinator of the project, and Libby Bar-David and colleagues from Surgical Science. While Philips shared insights into advanced image-guided technologies, Surgical Science showcased hands-on simulation demos and discussed innovative simulation projects.

Neurointervention at a turning point

The meeting highlighted how neurointervention is entering a transformative phase. The field is expanding beyond traditional approaches, with emerging directions such as transvascular interventions and the evolving field of “structural neuro”, where minimally invasive techniques are being explored to treat a broader range of neurological conditions.

These developments are supported by rapid advances in technologies such as robotics, brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and advanced image-guided technologies. Together, these innovations are changing how clinicians approach diagnosis and treatment, enabling increasingly precise and minimally invasive interventions.

This evolution reflects a broader global movement towards more targeted, technology-enabled approaches in brain care.

Shared ambitions across the Atlantic

Many of the themes discussed at SNIS closely align with the vision of SEISMIC: empowering healthcare professionals with better real-time insights to perform safer, more precise and effective brain interventions.

Within SEISMIC, partners across Europe are developing next-generation imaging solutions that combine real-time 4D ultrasound with advanced X-ray technologies. By integrating complementary imaging approaches, the project aims to provide clinicians with improved information during complex procedures and support more accurate decision-making.

As neurointervention continues to evolve, advanced imaging will play a key role in enabling new treatment approaches and expanding the possibilities of minimally invasive brain care.

Collaboration as the foundation for progress

The future of neurointervention cannot be shaped by one discipline or technology alone. It requires collaboration between neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, neurologists, oncologists, engineers, researchers and industry partners.

The discussions at SNIS demonstrate the importance of this multidisciplinary approach. Across continents, experts are working together to develop solutions that can make neurological interventions safer, more precise and more accessible for patients.
