About
Erasmus MC is one of Europe's leading academic medical centers, based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Affiliated with Erasmus University and home to its faculty of medicine, it combines clinical care, scientific research, and medical education - with a focus on healthcare innovation. With particular strength in neurosurgery, neuroscience, and imaging and engineering research, Erasmus MC plays an important role in developing new approaches for diagnosing and treating neurological disorders such as stroke and brain tumors.
As the academic lead of SEISMIC, the Erasmus MC is contributing from both a clinical and engineering perspective, with the departments of neurosurgery and neuroscience (BrainEcho Lab). Developing both treatment and imaging methods for brain tumor surgery.
Our role in the SEISMIC project
Erasmus MC contributes to SEISMIC by:
- Leading the development and clinical translation of cryoablation for brain tumor treatment.
- Planning and conducting the COLD clinical study, including a Phase II clinical trial on brain tumor cryoablation.
- Developing real-time 4D ultrasound imaging solutions for intraoperative image-guided neurosurgery.
- Integrating and evaluating X-ray and 4D ultrasound imaging to improve surgical guidance and precision.
