About
Curix is committed to developing solutions that improve the treatment for neurological diseases. Currently, many life-threatening and debilitating neurological diseases cannot be treated because the blood-brain barrier hinders the delivery of therapeutic agents to the brain. Our breakthrough technology can noninvasively modulate the blood-brain barrier, enabling treatments for brain tumors and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Curix’s technology is designed to advance microbubble-enhanced FUS for blood-brain barrier modulation (FUS-BBB). Our goal is to make FUS-BBB more clinically accessible by standardizing protocols and improving treatments for brain disease.
Our role in the SEISMIC project
- Brain tumor diagnosis often requires invasive surgery to obtain tissue samples for analysis.
- Within SEISMIC, Curix aims to reduce the need for surgery by exploring focused ultrasound–enhanced liquid biopsy (FUS-LB) as a non-invasive diagnostic approach.
- Curix is developing a technology to temporarily open the blood-brain barrier (BBB) using microbubbles and focused ultrasound.
- Controlled BBB opening may allow tumor-specific biomarkers to enter the bloodstream, making liquid biopsy more informative for brain tumor diagnosis.
- The Micro-BUBBLE clinical study, together with UMC Utrecht, will assess feasibility, safety, and efficacy of Curix’s microbubble and injector system for BBB opening.
- The study will also quantify biomarker enrichment after FUS-LB to support improved differential diagnosis of brain tumors and better patient care."
